How To Get Started With Face Painting

So you've decided you would like to learn how to paint faces. You want to see your painting bringing joy and delight to young children, maybe at your child's birthday party. Or maybe you want to be a professional face painter.
Face painting really can be a very fun and fulfilling job, but it can also be a lot of hard work.
But if you're a beginner, how do you get started? This is what I'm going to answer for you in this article.
One of the best ways of learning is to take a face painting class. It's hard to say where to find a face painting class near you. Sometimes you can take face and body painting classes at college. Sometimes you can get free face painting classes at certain events. If you were to search Google for "face painting class + your area" you may be able to find someone who can give you some tuition.
If you want to learn advanced face painting techniques, classes are one of the best ways of learning, especially if you want to improve your painting skills quickly.
If you can't find face painting classes in your area (they aren't always many around, so it's certainly no crime if you can't fine one) then you may like to learn from face painting instructional books.
If you search a popular book site like Amazon, you'll be able to find a whole host of books to do with face painting. Read the reviews to find out which is best suited for you.
Another good way for a beginner to learn face painting, is with instructional videos. The obvious benefit over books is that you can actually see how something is done in a video, as apposed to just reading about it.
But sometimes, if you've already got some face painting skills, all you need is a little experience to help you build your confidence.
Would you like to know the quickest way to get lots of practice?
It's simply this: Contact your local children's school and offer to do free face painting for an afternoon. Now you may get turned down... but most likely, they will be very keen to let you do this if you aren't charging anything. This is a powerful way to gain experience fast.

Simple Face Painting Ideas For Kids

Ever wanted some simple face painting ideas for kids? Well, I can't tell you everything, but in this article I can surely get you started. Painting faces is a wonderful way to entertain children at birthday parties and other occasions. All you need to get going are a few materials and also a little easy to learn skill. So, if you're ready for some simple face painting ideas for kids, let's get going.

Painting faces has grown in popularity in recent years, both for children and for adults. The great thing about drawing on faces is you can do everything from simple designs to a total face paint. But before you start, let's talk about what you need to know, then we'll talk about some simple ideas for painting kids faces.

Face Paints

Of course, we need paints, but not just any paint will do. Face paints are specially formulated to be safe, especially for children. You can get these paints online or at your local costume store. Make up works, but not too well. Get the real thing.

Face Paint Colors

You'll need an assortment of colors. You're not painting a work of art, but a variety of your basic colors will work well. You can order face paints singly or in a set. Sets of colors work best when you get started. You'll find out as you go along that you use a lot of certain colors like whites and blacks, so you can get those as separate tubes when you need them.

Face Paint Brushes

Make up brushes will do, but they're fairly expensive. What you really need are synthetic brushes. A small one and a medium sized one will do nicely. You don't need an elaborate set, and also, you don't want natural bristle brushes. They're too stiff for painting faces, especially kids faces. Just get the two brushes to start with. You're also going to need a water dish and a few sponges.

Simple Face Painting Ideas For Kids

Although you can start painting whole faces like tigers and princesses, it's easier to start with smaller designs. Think of kid friendly stuff for your simple face painting ideas for kids like cup cakes, flowers, butterflies, and maybe sport themes for little boys. Use your imagination and you can come up with your won simple face painting ideas for kids.

Creative Face Painting Ideas

Face painting has become so common nowadays that people are always searching for new ideas for mouth painting. It has become quite common to see football and cricket fans watching a game with their faces painted in the colours of their favourite team, and in fact, they even get special hats and fancy dresses for the occasion. What started out as a fad with children has now taken on a whole new dimension; now, even adults like to get their faces painted when attending an occasion, which may not necessarily be a fancy dress party.

Painting faces requires skill and imagination and not everyone can do it. People who lack the basic skills of painting faces will end up mucking it up. Faces should be painted depending on the occasion. If it is a football or a cricket game, the colours of the club or the flag of the country are big favourites. Fans want to show their affiliations. For a children party, the mouth-painting would depend on the theme of the party. Boys may want their faces painted as pirates, monsters, robots, etc. and girls would like to be painted as fairies, witches, mermaids, etc. Painting animal faces is also a good idea as the child can play as being the animals painted on their faces.

Sceneries and landscapes also look nice as mouth paintings, like a sunset on the side of the mouth. Painting a clown mouth is always very popular and there are many variations that you can make to it. Painting a batch of children with the mouth of the exact same clown can be quite hilarious, as it will be difficult to tell who is who. By adding lipstick or glitter, you can really add a new dimension to the mouth design.

Mouth painting butterflies is another idea in which the creativity of the mouth painter can be fully utilised. A butterfly with its wings painted on eyelids can be very attractive. Every time the person blinks, it would seem as if the butterfly has flapped its wings. The same effect can be created by painting a bird on the face. Painting the mouth of a cat is also quite popular as you can align the lips of the cat with that of the person.

Creative mouth painting also depends on how elaborate the person wants to get their mouth painted. Some face painting designs can be quite elaborate like if you are painting a theme like dreams or illusions. Such face painting may require painting the neck as well. It is essentially the theme that drives the mouth painting design. Everything that you can imagine can be painted on the face. Therefore, it is the imagination that will motivate the face-painter. Of course, the person whose mouth is being painted should agree to the idea as well.

Aliens and mouth painting aliens is another fad nowadays, as people are getting more and more obsessed with them. Here again, the mouth painter can be extremely imaginative and any mouth from green monsters to transformers can be painted as an alien.

Face painting has spread like an art and a number of people have become quite skilful at it. Face painting does not require any elaborate equipment or brushes, etc.

Next the eyelids are painted. One eyelid is painted in blue and the other with green. Both eyes are outlined with dark blue and dark green colors. After this to make the clown face fancier, teardrops are added that look very beautiful and seem like the raindrops coming from the clouds.

The nose of the clown is painted with red. The lower lip is also painted in red color because it makes the expression of the clown's face clear from a distance. The eye brows are painted black. The outline of the corner of mouth is also painted black. Finally the face is highlighted with white and black colors.

Cat Face Paint Made Easy!

How to Paint a Cat Face on a Child

All kids can enjoy getting a face painting of a cat, the only difference is the paint colors you choose. Little girls will want their cat face paint to be pretty and sparkly, and boys might want a more fierce looking cat. Begin the kitty face painting with an application of the main color over the center of the face. The face paint should extend above the eyebrows for pointed cats ears, and down in a mask shape at the lower edge.

Now use black face paint to draw on cat ears. You will also use the black paint to define the cat face at the sides and draw on some fur on the lower cheeks and between the cat ears. Add more color to the cheek area if your main kitty face paint color is white or pale. If you used a dark color for the first application of paint, add some white paint over the child's top lip. You can then dot on some whisker holes with black paint on a fine brush.

To create a cat's mouth, draw a black line from nose to mouth and another along the top lip. The finishing touch to this cat design is a generous application of face glitter.

Cat Face Painting for Older Girls / Women

For older girls or women, you can choose whether to have the full cat face paint effect or whether you prefer more minimal cat makeup. For the first option you would create your face painting cat design much the same as you would to paint the cat face on a child. If you want something simpler, use regular makeup to create big smoky eyes with thick black eyeliner. You can also paint on a cat nose and whiskers with the eyeliner. If you prefer, it's possible to buy stick on cats whiskers from costume stores.

Alternative Cat Face Paint Ideas

You don't have to limit your kitty face painting to a domestic cat design. Why not consider a big cat such as a lion, tiger or leopard? If you are an experienced face painter, you could even try to copy the colors and markings of the family cat!

I hope you found these Halloween makeup ideas have got you started on your own face painting cat designs. Have fun this Halloween!
